Sail Training

To the beginner, it can all seem very daunting and sometimes even a little intimidating, the language itself can be very confusing...... 'OK guys lets get the genny up, make off the halyard, sheet in on the leeward side and see if we can lay that buoy...' We use English when teaching people to sail, introducing terminology bit by bit as it becomes appropriate, and most importantly, we don't shout! Learning how to handle a yacht safely and efficiently is an incredibly satisfying experience. We will teach you what you need to know and we will make sure you have great fun whilst learning with us. We offer the full range of sail training schemes through our school fleet based in Gosport. We spend the week in and around the Solent, visiting local ports such as Cowes, Yarmouth, Beaulieu, Lymington, Poole and Cross Channel. The duration of all courses is 5 days.

RYA Competent Crew

The RYA Competent Crew course is designed for the beginner and covers the basic skills associated with handling a yacht safely. These include rope and sail handling, steering, mooring and general yacht control. At the end of the course the trainee will be capable of contributing to the operation of the yacht in a meaningful and helpful way.

Sail Training Continued...

"In my experience, quite a lot of training companies take it all very seriously. I really did want to learn to sail but, given that I was taking a precious week off work, I also wanted to have fun!"

Steve and Richard here demonstrate the art of rope coiling and fender management!
