RYA Compent Crew Course Details
Welcome to the first steps in your yachting career!
To the beginner, it all seems very daunting and sometimes a little intimidating, the language itself can be very confusing...... 'OK guys lets get the genny up, make off the halyard, sheet in on the leeward side and see if we can lay that buoy...' We use English when teaching people to sail, introducing terminology bit by bit as it becomes appropriate, and most importantly, we don't shout! The competent crew course is all about learning how to handle a yacht safely and efficiently is an enormously satisfying experience, and above all we make sure that you have a great time.
The competent crew course does not lead to a qualification so much as a course completion certificate, indicating that the holder is capable of contributing to the operation of the yacht in a meaningful and helpful way.
Steve and Chris here did manage to distinguish between ropess and fender, and even got the hang of coiling ropes so that they didn't end up like a pile of spaghetti!
