Cross Channel Cruises

Setting off to Alderney early eveningFor those of you for whom the joys of the Solent are not quite enough, then come and join us on one of our cross channel cruises. We almost invariably run these over bank holiday weekends.  We generally get together on the Thursday evening before the weekend, have a meal and a couple of beers, before retiring reasonably early for the night, in preparation for a very early start the following morning - which usually means at about 0400!  We sail across the channel during the day, aiming for either Cherbourg or St Vaast on the Eastern coast of the cherbourg peninsula, arriving in time for early evening beers and then a meal at a lovely local restaurant.  Leaving on the Saturday morning at about 1000 gives us enough time to sail along the North coast of France, through the Race past Alderney and on down to St Peter Port in Guernsey, where we have a fine knees up.

Departing St. Peter Port at about 0830 gives us a nice reach up to Alderney ( if the wind is kind to us ) for lunch.

A group of people enjoying a drink in the cockpitAfter a good lunch we would have a siesta before setting off on a night sail back across the channel.  This is a particularly lovely experience, especially if it is your first time.  Reaching the Needles and the imposing chalk cliffs at the western end of the Isle of Wight at first light is very beautiful.  Breakfast in Cowes before a gentle sail back to Gosport arriving at about lunchtime - if we have got the planning right!

This cruise is extremely popular not just for the huge fun of it, but also as an excellent opportunity to gain some real off-shore experience and very instructive coastal planning and passage making for those who are progressing towards RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster.
