The RYA Yachtmaster Examination
The Yachtmaster examination is undertaken by a qualified RYA Yachtmaster examiner, who will join the boat specifically for the exam at an agreed port.
You will need to produce the following:
- First Aid certificate
- VHF Licence
- Passport Sized Photograph
- A cheque made payable to the RYA for £ 163
- Probably your log - book
The yachtmaster exam is officially 8 hrs per candidate, but this is only a guide, it may be that the examiner has een all he / she needs to see after a few hours ( not really a good sign !) or that he/she will extend the exam if it is felt that you need more opportunity to demonstrate your true standard.
The exam should be a fair test, the examiner providing you with opportunities to show him/her what you can do. Don't panic if you get a tidal calculation wrong, that isn't the end of the world. The examiner is aiming to get an overall impression of your competence during the course of the exam.
